Surrealism Art

“Nature finds a way” is the meaning behind my artwork. No matter if its flying whales with trees growing out of their heads or making dinosaurs able to breed even though their all female (Jurassic park reference).  I feel like my surrealist art represents this meaning because living things will continue to evolve and find ways to improve, one day whales are swimming along in the ocean, the next their flying in the air (Which to me makes a lot of sense due to the fact that they breathe oxygen). Today trees grow in the earth, tomorrow they grow on living creatures (that one makes a lot less sense).

I took the photos of the background and the trees, I got the whales from the Internet. I drew a few sketches and figured out what I wanted to do. Then I went on Photoshop and put it all together. I added the shadows by copying the whales, squishing them and changing the colour and opacity.

I learned how to create shadows in Photoshop and how to use it more efficiently. I am very satisfied with my work its probably the best I could have made it. Im very glad that it turned out the way it did I was afraid that I might have to do something different instead of the whales.

ART CRITICISM

DESCRIPTION
The title of the artwork is fire spirit made in 1979 by Norval Morrisseau. All of the lines are thick except for some of the lines in the actual fire spirit. The lines are all curvy and rounded. Most of the painting is round or curvy. The entire painting has a smooth texture. It is red, blue, orange, yellow, black and grey. In the image there is a fire spirit and rocks underneath it.

ANALYSIS
The first thing you see is the fire spirit itself, it really pops because of all of the colours. It is asymmetrical as it is different on both sides. It is very flat and 2D. shapes and colours are repeated throughout the artwork.

INTERPRETATION
In the artwork it shows a fire spirit rising from what looks like rocks. The artist is not concerned with imitating nature nor is he concerned with expressing a feeling or emotion. He is concerned with lines, shapes, colours, etc.

JUDGMENT
I like the artwork. Personally I'm not really a philosophical artist and everything I draw is literal, so this artwork, having no clear "meaning" is something I really like. Also the spirit itself is very menacing and really cool looking.

Rhythm and Repetition Assignment

I created a steady rhythm by keeping all the

lines close together and making it slowly rise and

lower without drastically going up and down. I

made sure that the lines didn't go up and down

quickly so that it still looks steady. I also kept all

the lines an equal width.

I created a dynamic rhythm by making each of

the lines spike drastically. Each of the lines has

different angles and there is no real pattern other

then going up and down. some lines are smaller

and others  are much bigger.
